Construction

The FN External Mounted Gun System (EMGS) is a fully qualified airborne flex-fire weapon integration built to install on rotary-wing aircraft, combining robust external mounting hardware and pintle interfaces that support crew-served and fixed-forward firing of machine guns while preserving aircraft cabin space.

Key Features

Designed for dynamic combat scenarios, it supports multiple calibers (.50 cal and 7.62 mm machine guns such as FN M3M/GAU-21, GAU-18, or M134), offers dual-mode firing (side crew-served and pilot-controlled forward firing), modular left/right configurations, and dedicated fire control integration to engage threats on the ground and in the air.

Maintenance

Maintenance for the EMGS focuses on regular inspection and servicing of the mounting interfaces, weapon integration points, fire control units, and ammunition/feed systems per FN Herstal’s technical and military standards to ensure reliable operation under harsh flight conditions and mission requirements.
